The Estate
Whether it's the splendour of a Baronial Mansion, or the comfort of a traditional cottage you're looking for, we have six unique self-catering options. Off the beaten track, forty miles west of Fort William, Kinlochmoidart Estate sits at the head of Loch Moidart, and is surrounded by spectacular views of sea, hill and coastal oak woodlands, also known as Scotland’s Atlantic rainforest.
This is an area full of history with the former house site being a staging point for Bonnie Prince Charlie during the 1745 Jacobite Rising; and you can retrace the steps of Macdonald of Clanranald on the Silver Walk (where his treasure remains buried!) leading you to the spectacular Castle Tioram.
House & Accommodation
Built in 1884, Kinlochmoidart House is one of the few remaining original works of the renowned architect William Leiper. Our self-catering apartments and cottages each have their own character and style, and are all situated within the policies of Kinlochmoidart House, among 50 acres of wooded garden grounds.
Leiper, The Turret and Glenfield are within the main house; all 3 have been traditionally and sensitively renovated, retaining many of the original Victorian features. Leiper sleeps 9, The Turret sleeps 4, and Glenfield sleeps 2. There is an internal door between Leiper and The Turret which can be unlocked if required to make a party of 13. All 3 apartments have outdoor seating, and there are benches on the lawn (perfect for games) at the front of the house too, looking to the sea.
The Colt House is situated in a secluded area of the grounds and sleeps 11; the walled garden is on one side, and on the other, is a large area of grass and little ponds, which are a haven for ducks and other water birds. The Dairy, our delightful ‘honeymoon’ cottage, sleeps 2, and sits on its own amongst the trees. The Coach House sleeps 4, and is cosy and charming, with a large expanse of lawn at the front.
All have outdoor seating and are fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay; Plenty of logs, WiFi and TV. Dogs are more than welcome.
Walking, swimming and kayaking can all be done from the doorstep, and Kinlochmoidart is an ideal base for exploring this unspoilt, and relatively unknown, area of the West Highlands - though popular spots including Glenfinnan, Mallaig,
Ardnamurchan and Ben Nevis, are all within easy reach. Our location also provides easy access to the Inner Hebrides, including the Isles of Eigg, Rum, Muck, Skye and Mull.
Kinlochmoidart and the surrounding area has something for everyone, from exploring the glens, hills, forests, castles and beaches to distillery tours, a round of golf overlooking the sea, feasting on local seafood, or simply staying put with a good book.
